Tasting Notes
"A blend comprised primarily of Merlot, La Muse demonstrates the elegance and finesse of a Pomerol style wine. This wine begins with a deep purple color, followed by a blackberry nose that is enhanced by a hint of chocolate and polished wood. The full, soft mouth is distinctly elegant as each layer has unique flavor and texture. Red berry flavor prevails, including raspberry and notes of huckleberry. Cabernet Franc provides structure, and coupled with well-integrated tannins, results in a long, graceful finish." - Pierre Seillan, Vigneron
Acclaim
94 Points - The Wine Advocate, Robert Parker, Jr., December 2003
"The 2001 La Muse possesses a dense purple color as well as a big, sweet bouquet of chocolate-infused blackberries and cherries intermixed with hints of smoke, earth, and truffles. Full-bodied, with great intensity, tremendous purity, sweet, well-integrated tannin, and a long, blockbuster finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. It offers both power and finesse, a rarity in the super-charged world of big California reds. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020+."
92-95 Points - International Wine Cellar, Stephen Tanzer, June 2003
"Medium ruby-red. Superripe aromas of red berries, coffee, tar and tobacco, with an exotic hint of blackberry liqueur. Rich, dense, large-scaled and chewy but quite dry, with very ripe berry, chocolate and licorice flavors. Lush, seamless and sophisticated. Finishes very long and ripe, with smooth, melting tannins."
